Staffing

·         Stacy Hardy, Materials Processor, was promoted to Library Assistant I.

·         The resulting open Materials Processor position was posted.

 

Facility

·         Roof leaks throughout the building continued to be a problem.

·         May 10:  Book Discussion Group For Adults

o        Book:  No Graves As Yet by Anne Perry

o        Facilitators:  Mary Reed and Candace Hulst

o        Attendance:  14

 

·         May 11:  Genealogy Program for Adults – “Genealogy on the Internet”

o        Attendance:  28 adults (registration was limited)

o        Presenter:  Pamela Lucas

o        Program sponsored by the Friends of the Library

 

·         May 25:  “History at the Bend” Puppet Show

o        Presented in celebration of Michigan Week

o        Attendance:  33 children and 18 adults

o        Presenters: Marilyn and Jim Galer and the Ken Williams Puppets

 

·         May 30:  Library Visit by Two Second Grade Classes from Sandy Hill Elementary School

o        Included Library and bibliographic instruction, story time, and information about the Library’s Summer Reading Program

o        Session One Attendance:  32 children and 4 adults

o        Session Two Attendance:  28 children and 4 adults

 

·         May 31:  Library Visit by Third Grade Classes from Pinewood Elementary School

o        Included bibliographic instruction and a presentation by Jill Reyers (Head of Youth Services)

o        Attendance:  60 children and 10 adults

 

·         Toddler (“Wee Ones”) and Preschool Spring Story Times

o        A four-week session of Story Time that began the week of April 11 concluded.

·         Artwork created by fifth graders (“The Madhatters”) from Pinewood Elementary School was on display in the Library’s Youth Services area.

·         Promotional materials (press releases and flyers) for the Summer Reading Program for Adults created – Mary Reed

·         Promotional materials (press releases, flyers, and posters) for the Scholastic Book Fair created – Pamela Myers

·         Participation in the Memorial Day Parade – Pamela Myers, Candace Hulst & 4 volunteers

·         New bibliographies created – “Great American Writers” & “A Novel Way to Travel” – Mary Reed

·         Updated bibliographies – “Nonfiction for Adults” & “Biographies for Adults” – Becky Ilkanic

·         Additional promotional materials (draw slips, flyers, and signage) created for the Summer Reading Program for Youth – Jill Reyers & Sue Kirvan

Friends of the Library

·         The Friends met on Monday, May 01 for their monthly meeting.

·         Local author Martha Robach spoke to the group, sharing her experiences as a writer. The Friends group purchased two of her books for the Library’s collection.

·         Voting on the slate of officers and committee members for the 2006 – 2007 fiscal year assembled during the April meeting took place.

o        Officers for the 2006 – 2007 membership year are as follows:

·         President:  Marian Payne

·         Vice President:  Richard Saxon

·         Treasurer:  Pat Light

·         Assistant Treasurer:  Kay Miedema

·         Secretary:  Carol Newman

o        Committee members for the 2006 – 2007 membership year were assigned as follows:

·         Hospitality:  Kay Miedema & Rosy Roberts

·         Book Sales:  Pat Light

·         Historian:  Jinny Kiel

·         Ongoing Book Sale Shelves:  Joan Korzilius

·         Friendship:  Rosy Roberts & Sharon VanDam

 

·         The Friends approved to fund the expenditure of $1,425 for General Programming for the period September – December 2006.

·         A total of $35 was approved for the purchase of décor items for the Young Adult area of the Library.

·         The Friends also agreed to fund the purchase of replacement shelving for Book Sale storage. (Final cost of the shelving was to be approved by the officers and Joan Korzilius prior to purchase.)

·         Three Friends members (Marian Payne, Carol Newman & Pamela Myers) attended Kent District Library’s Alliance of Friends “All Friends Linking” Workshop. Topics covered included capital fund-raising, early literacy projects in the library, and book sales.
