Library Department Report

June 2006

Staffing

·         Interviews for the vacant Materials Processor position were conducted.

·         Katelyn Miller, Library Page, was promoted to Materials Processor.

·         Sara Braden, Library Page, tendered her resignation during the month.

·         The resulting vacant Library Page positions, as well as that of Andrew Perry, were posted.

·         Interviews for the vacant Library Page positions were conducted.

 

Facility

·         Roof leaks throughout the building continued to be a problem.

 

 

 Professional Development & Meetings

·         Meetings and workshops attended by professional staff included:

o        Monthly Library Supervisors Meeting

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Librarians, Circulation Coordinators & Library Assistants

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Library Pages – Mary Reed and Pamela Myers

o        Lakeland Library Cooperative Policy, Planning & Services Committee  – Pamela Myers

o        Lakeland Library Cooperative Advisory Council – Pamela Myers

 

 

 

Programming, Promotions, Publicity, Special Projects,

 Departmental Activities, etc.

 

·         The 9th Annual Scholastic Book Fair was held June 12 – June 15

o        Coordinated by Pamela Myers with assistance from Candace Hulst and a small group of Library volunteers

o        Appearance in the Memorial Day Parade promoting this event with costumed characters – Pamela Myers, Candace Hulst, and 4 Library volunteers

 

·         June 07:  Book Discussion Group For Adults

o        Book:  The Devil in the White City by Eric Larson

o        Facilitators:  Mary Reed and Candace Hulst

o        Attendance:  11

 

·         June 12:  Summer Reading Program for Adults Began (Program runs through August 05)

o        Registration through June 30:  107 adults

 

·         June 01:  School Visit to the Library

o        Two first grade teachers from Bursley Elementary School invited their students and parents to meet them at the Library for an hour during the evening for an introduction to the Library and the opportunity to register for a library card.

o        Attendance:  42 children and 42 adults

 

·         June 12:  Summer Reading Program for Youth (Program runs through August 05)

o        Registration through June 30:  1,599 children and young adults

·         Ages 3 – 5:  378 children

·         Ages 6 – 11:  984 children

·         Ages 12 –17:  237 young adults

 

·         Special Summer Events for Youth

o        June 14:  Farm Animals on the Go (All ages)

·         Attendance:  200 children and adults

o        June 21:  “Rumpelstiltskin” Marionette Show presented by Stevens Puppets (Ages 6 & older)

·         Attendance: 103 children and 28 adults

o        June 21:  Story Time (Ages 5 & younger)

·         Presented by:  Sue Kirvan

·         Attendance:  93 children and 28 adults

o        June 28:  John Ball Zoo Traveling Animal Show (Ages 6 & older)

·         Attendance:  210 children and 76 adults

o        June 28:  Story Time (Ages 5 & younger)

·         Presented by:  Sue Kirvan

·         Attendance:  68 children and 30 adults

 

·         Design a Bookmark Contest (Ages 12 –17):  25 entries

 

·         Promotional materials and displays for the Summer Reading Program for Youth contests – Jill Reyers & Sue Kirvan

·         Youth Services area bulletin board display for the Summer Reading Program – Jill Reyers

·         Display of prizes for the Summer Reading Program for Youth – Jill Reyers

o        Special bicycle display – Library Volunteer

·         Window display of Summer Reading Program participants – Jill Reyers & Sue Kirvan

·         Display of prizes for the Summer Reading Program for Adults – Mary Reed

·         Lobby table display of suggested reading – Mary Reed (with suggestions from Library Staff)

·         Clean-Up of incomplete and expired patron accounts in the Patron Registration Database – Pamela Myers

·         Rework of collection codes, I-codes, I-types, cataloging and call number standards, etc.  – Pamela Myers

·         Creation of Library Page Handbook/Procedure Manual began – Mary Reed

·         Weeding of Adult Nonfiction Biographies – Susan Carlson

·         Weeding of the Adult Rental Book collection – Pamela Myers
