Staffing

·         Library Pages Jennifer Dykhouse, Sara Wilson, and Jessica Timmer, as well as Katelyn Miller, Materials Processor, resigned their respective positions during the month. All left to enter college.

·         Interviews for the open Library Page positions continued.

·         The open Materials Processor position was posted and interviews began.

·         Elisabeth Knol and Bernadette Underhill joined the staff as Library Pages.

 

Facility

·         Removal of the old roof and installation of the new roof began during the last week of the month.

 

 Professional Development & Meetings

·         Meetings and workshops attended by professional staff included:

o        Monthly Library Supervisors Meeting

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Librarians, Circulation Coordinators, Library Assistants & Materials Processors

o        Monthly Staff Meeting for Library Pages – Mary Reed & Pamela Myers

o        Lakeland Library Cooperative Continuing Education Committee – Mary Reed

·         August 09:  Book Discussion Group For Adults

o        Book:  A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

o        Facilitators:  Mary Reed and Candace Hulst

o        Attendance:  18


 

·         Summer Reading Program for Adults (June 12 – August 05)

o        Total Registration:  110 adults

o        Total Completing the Program:  34 adults for a completion rate of 31% of those registered or 54% of those submitting at least one mini-review.

o        Adults participating in the program were challenged to read 8 books in 8 designated genres and write a mini-review for each. Those completing the program received a finisher prize and were eligible to win a grand prize or one of several second level prizes.

o        Each mini-review served as an entry in weekly prize drawings. Thus, if participants could not manage to complete the entire program, they were still eligible to win weekly prizes.

·         A total of 377 mini-reviews were collected from 63 participants.

·         A total of 42 participants were awarded prizes from weekly drawings.

 

·         Special Summer Events for Youth

o        August 01:  Movie “Holes” (Ages 12 - 17)

·         Program cancelled due to lack of registration (Pre-registration required)

o        August 03:  Movie “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” (Ages 12 - 17)

·         Attendance:  10 young adults (Pre-registration required)

 

·         Summer Reading Program for Youth  (June 12 – August 12)

o        Total Registration:  1,703 children & young adults  (Ages 3 – 17)

o        Total Completing the Program:  754 children & young adults for a 66% completion rate

o        The Summer Reading Program for Youth consisted of individual programs for three age groups:  ages 3 - 5, ages 6 - 11, and ages 12 - 17

·         For every two hours of reading completed, participants were eligible to enter drawings for four grand prizes.

·         Participants were required to complete 6 hours of reading (independently or with an adult, depending on the child’s reading level) to qualify as a finisher and receive a collection of “reading rewards.”

·         Second and third level reading rewards were awarded to those participants who challenged themselves and read an additional 4 hours and then a final additional 6 hours, respectively.

o        Total Program/Special Event Attendance:

·         Preschool Story Times:  318 children and 147 adults at 5 sessions

·         Youth & Family Programs (Excluding Teen Programs):  727 children and 217 adults at 6 programs

·         Young Adults:  24 teens and 1 adult at 6 programs

·         Program Attendance All Programs/All Ages:  1,069 children & young adults and 364 adults at 17 programs

o        Average Program/Special Event Attendance:

·         Preschool Story Time:  64 children and 29 adults per session

·         Youth & Family Programs (Excluding Teen Programs):  130 children and 44 adults per program

·         Young Adult Programs:  4 young adults per program

Friends of the Library

·         No meeting is held during the month of August.

·         The replacement shelving for Book Sale storage arrived. The old shelving unit was cleared of all materials and disassembled by a Library volunteer and Rod Deemter. A Library volunteer assembled the new shelving frameworks and Township Parks staff obtained shelving materials and cut and delivered the needed shelves.
